The loss of my mother to Cancer over two years ago is still fresh in my mind, but I’ve always wondered what I can do to help carry her memory on. I try to tell Haley and Mason stories about her, to keep her memory alive, but I know there is more that I can do. While Breast Cancer is not the disease that ultimately stole her young life, Cancer in its own light is a cause that keeps coming to the forefront in terms of getting my attention.

My friend introduced me to the concept, and just yesterday I walked my first training mile and today at lunch I walked 3 miles. And in just 6 months, I am going to join my best friends Jamie Reed and Jennifer Hall and we are going to walk 60 miles in a span of 3 days! In April, we will be participating in an Avon Breast Cancer 3-day, which will be held in San Diego and will raise awareness of Breast Cancer and help to give all women the opportunity for early detection. I’m walking because I believe I can make a difference.

The personal challenge of reaching the finish line – with the added benefit of getting in shape - and maybe even losing a few pounds - will be my motivation. And Mom will be my inspiration, as she always was and will be. And while I realize that it will be tough, I will do the hard part, which is getting ready for and completing the event. I have a little over six months to train and about two months to raise my personal goal of $2000 for the cause.

Thank you in advance for your giving heart in loving memory of those who have battled the disease and those who may someday have a better chance to survive!
